Making Lawns Loveable

Aeration and Overseeding

Aeration and Overseeding are important for changing tired, dull yards into vibrant, inviting spaces. Increasing both aesthetics and functionality, these projects breathe new life into outdoor environments, creating a fresh canvas for relaxation and enjoyment.

Aeration and Overseeding

For a healthy and beautiful lawn, strong root development, and year-round green, colorful grass, aeration and overseeding are important measures. Aeration is an important process that involves breaking through the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to enter deep into the roots of your grass. This helps reduce soil settling, which can halt growth and water absorption. We allow stronger root systems and general grass strength by clearing your lawn, which results in a thicker, lusher grass.

Overseeding complements aeration by introducing new grass seed to your existing lawn. This process helps fill in bare spots, improve turf density, and improve the overall resilience of your grass against pests, diseases, and environmental stressors. MW Lawn & Landscape, carefully selects high-quality grass seed blends that are well-suited to your local climate and soil conditions, ensuring optimal growth and sustainability.

What is core aeration and why does my lawn need it?

Core aeration pulls thousands of small plugs of soil out of your lawn, opening up compacted ground so air, water, and nutrients reach the roots. Johnson County’s heavy clay soils compact easily, and compaction is one of the biggest hidden causes of thin, struggling turf. Our lawn aeration service relieves that compaction and gives roots room to grow deeper and stronger.

They’re a perfect pair. Aeration opens holes in the soil, and overseeding drops fresh grass seed right into that ideal seed-to-soil contact far better germination than throwing seed on top. Done together, you relieve compaction and thicken the lawn in one service, which is why we combine them on a single visit.

For cool-season fescue and bluegrass lawns, early fall is the ideal window typically September into early October. The soil is still warm enough for fast germination, nights are cooling, and new grass has the whole fall to establish before winter. Fall overseeding gives far better results than spring. Call (913) 829-4949 to get on the fall schedule.

New seedlings usually appear in about 1 to 3 weeks, with noticeable fill-in over the following month. Keeping the area consistently moist during establishment is the single biggest factor we’ll walk you through a simple watering plan after the service.

Most cool-season lawns benefit from annual fall aeration and overseeding, especially on compacted clay or lawns that thin out over summer. Thicker turf each year means fewer weeds, better stress tolerance, and less work fighting bare spots down the road.
