That’s not up to you or your contractor your water provider decides. A backflow preventer is required by law on any irrigation system, since it’s what stops lawn water from siphoning back into your drinking supply. There are three common types: Double Check, Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB), and Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ). WaterOne permits any of the three, but City of Olathe service and the City of Shawnee do not allow a Double Check so which one goes in depends on who supplies your water. We install the right device for your address, and our licensed plumber pulls the cross-connection permit. After that, our certified testers handle testing and file the report with your district.
Installing a system means trenching across your whole yard there’s no way around that part. The difference is what happens next. Most irrigation contractors backfill and hand you back a yard laced with scars, and that’s your problem to fix. We’re a lawn and landscape company first: we grade the lines back level, seed or sod them, and repair any beds we worked through. Within a season, you shouldn’t be able to tell where we dug.
